We interviewed baby-boomer and book author Carol Stanley so that people could hear her talk about her background, get a feel for the ‘person behind the book’, and learn how one BOOMER, working in retirement, turned her passion for relationships into a lifestyle business of writing and reaching out to others via her website and blogging.
In her book, entitled, “For Kids 59.99 and Over“ available in stores and online, Stanley shares tips on how to evaluate your lifestyle, take stock of your eating habits, and what to do to make your life fun and exciting.
The interview
Listen to interview with Boomer Carol Stanley, public speaker and author of a new book, being released Sept. 1st, on the subject of creating new directions in your life as you approach your 60′s.
Making Friends and Keeping Friends
“As you get older you find that people get more set in their ways; they often don’t want to get out of their comfort zone; they have their set friends,” said Stanley, “and that may not be the life you’re content with, so you need to do a little more exploring to find your place; define your new lifestyle.” “I talk a lot about that in the book,” said Stanley, “about making friends and keeping friends.”
Health Mindset for Active Lifestyle
In Chapter 19, Stanley talks about the value of diet, exercise, and vitamins and supplements; all from a preventative health mindset. ”A few of us are turned off by all the prescription drugs,” said Stanley, “When we take a prescription drug for high blood pressure, for instance, we will more than likely be on that the rest of our lives.”
Twenty-First Century Stress
Stanley offers even the least technologically-skilled boomers a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ list of how to avoid twenty-first century stress in Chapter 2. She encourages people who feel they are ‘technologically-challenged’ to start simply; to learn how to use a computer to send emails to family members and research topics of interest.
At Home In Internet Culture
Stanley admits that even in her 40′s she didn’t know how to turn on a computer, and she didn’t learn it until she had a need to learn it. What she found is that a computer is a power tool for finding like-minded people and enabling her to manage a global lifestyle business from wherever she chooses to live.
